Update on David and Mel

Well, Mel is back in the nursing home, praise the Lord. The doctor said that this episode (shortness of breath, etc) was just from exertion. Dan says he is eating well, but not getting much exercise so he is gaining weight which doesn't help the problem.

David is more coherent and is communicating more. However, is in La La land some of the time. He had to have a blood transfusion last night because his hemoglobin was down to 8. Not sure what that is from but it should help his energy and breathing, etc when it gets back up to a more normal level. When they get that under control and twhen the pneumonia is completely gone he will go to a nursing home.... prayerfully that will be Chenal (the same one that Mel is in). Please continue to lift them all up to the throne. God is carrying them, but I know they must be exhausted.

ALSO.... please let me know when you can how Jan 15th is for you all. I know that this is a busy time so know it might be too early to answer that. I will be gone all of next week to the ministry for a trainer meeting but Jim will be around to get the emails.

First Community Group Meeting for 2010

Yes, 2010!!! Hard to believe but here we are ready to jump into a new year. Sooooo what better way to begin than to PRAY!!! The first meeting will be on January 15, 2010 at the City Smith's home. At that meeting we will begin to discuss the Sageworks opportunities for service. Steve Freeman would like to come to the meeting to inform us about Marriage 911 if it fits his schedule. If not, Jim will try to get some info on it and relay it to us at that meeting.

However we each decide to serve (or not) is up to us and how God has gifted each of us. Nancy Vinson and Steve Freeman have both approached us since they desperately need help, but again there is no pressure for us to get involved as a group or as individuals. How we each serve depends on God's leading.

Update on David and Mel

I called you with the last update and left messages for you today but decided to quickly write what I think Dan said this morning. (I was in Drug Emporium pouring over health foods... ugh! The New Year is approaching.)

David is improving in the pneumonia and heart issues, and they think he will leave the hospital in the coming week (hope that is right). He will NOT be coming home but will be going to a nursing home since his condition would require a great deal of care. Pray that God would get him into the one where Mel has been so that it will be easier for Dan and Dorothy. His infection in his sternum is not resolved and will not be... and is what will cause his death if God doesn't intervene. They would have to remove his sternum to help that condition and that would more than likely kill him soooo... Dan is grateful for the prayers AND for the fact that this gives David more time to settle things with the Lord. Let's keep praying for that.

Mel is still in the hospital at Baptist but is doing better and seems to be himself. That may mean that he will be back at the nursing home soon. As of this morning they had not determined what caused his incident at home on Sunday.

Please hold them up all up in prayer and that God will give Dan and Dorothy strength (going to the hospital every day and wisdom for this time. (lots of paperwork and insurance stuff for Dorothy to wade through, too). He is able.... nothing is too difficult for HIM. Praise His Name!!!

Prayer Request / Brother

Hello and Merry Christmas to everyone.

It is with great sorry that I post this request. My brother Dave had to be placed in St Vincent late last Saturday with a staf invention that has progressed to pneumonia and congestive heart failure. He was moved this morning to the ICU. Just received a call from the doctor with the news. He said David at this moment has a 50% chance of recovery . However, if his body starts to show a positive result to the antibiotics, the outcome would be more positive. I ask that you prayer for his salvation. He has lived a life of pain and I feel is just worn out at this time. I prayer the Holy Spirit is talking to him in a way he has never felt before and will see his true freedom in Christ. He has a head knowledge but lacks a heart knowledge. Also pray for my Mother that this would not be a sorrowful Christmas but one of victory in Christ. Pray that I would stay healthy and strong for my family. Thank you for being a help to me. God Bless, Dan

Merry Christmas!

We just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas before the season fills up with people, food, fun, travel, etc. We pray that the time with all its busyness will be full of Him and the reality of not just His coming, but His purpose in coming. He came from His home in glory, took on human flesh, and died in our place. That is why He came!!!! Amazing Love!!! And the blood that cleansed us from our sin.... the blood of that spotless Lamb continues to drip from that cross into our lives every day with His Amazing Grace. AND He is coming again to receive us to Him... Our King of Kings!!!!!! Praise His Holy Name!!! I wonder what gifts He would like from us on His Birthday??

Christmas Party update

Community Group Christmas Party

Donna and Ernie have graciously volunteered to have the Community Group Christmas Party this year. Donna and I talked today, and not only is she having the dinner, but she is also providing the main dish. What a woman!!!! She is planning to make Manicotti, but says that could change as the day nears. What will not change is the rest of the menu.... salad, bread, and a dessert. We may also add a hot vegetable. Sooooo if you have a favorite salad or dessert to make, email or call me, and I will put your name beside it. I will call or write you with info on the time for the party. Hope you can all come. Prayer request

Suzanne P asked for prayer for Barbara, the woman at church that signs for the deaf ministry. She is a breast cancer survivor who is having some symptoms of dizziness and nausea. The scan is to find the cause. Please pray for her.... no cancer ..... peace.... simple cause for the dizziness and nausea... thanks... meet you at the throne.

Gifts for Veterans

When you wrap your gifts for the veterans, make sure to put not only the vets name on the gift but yours also. It's their way of keeping track of who got who what, I guess. Mrs. Walton, who is in charge of the Gifts for Veterans Project ask me to remind you.

Suzanne's Baptism

Well, I hardly know what to say about Suzanne's baptism other than... To God be the Glory great things he has done.

First, Suzanne did a wonderful job of sharing on video about why she wanted to be baptized. That was beautiful, Suzanne. Then she stepped into the waters with Shelby by her side and gave us that amazing picture of our lives.... "buried with Him in baptism and raised to walk in newness of life." Thank you, Suzanne! Thank you, Lord! If that had been the only thing that happened it would have been a glorious day, BUT GOD... gave us more reasons to praise Him.

After a time of worship, Bill P asked if some in the congregation might want to share a testimony of how God had blessed them this year. Some did and then Jim Brown stood up to share. With tears streaming down his face and with his voice breaking he shared a little about Jeremy's stroke and Sloan's illness and about their healing and what a testimony this family (the Country Smiths) had been to him (and us) of holding on to God, etc. EMOTIONAL!!!! (Jim B, I am sure that I didn't adequately say what you said, but I was so overwhelmed with it all that I wish it were on tape.... so great!!!! a move of the Spirit for sure).

Oh, but that wasn't all that God had for us..... Jeremy got up next and stood tall (and handsome, I might add) and told some of his story in a calm but clear voice... the stroke, that he couldn't walk or talk (again I was in a sobbing state by now so I didn't hear it all), and how grateful He was to be there... How grateful he was to God!!! He thanked God for his mom and dad and for the community group for their prayers. Then sat down... and the congregation stood to their feet and clapped for Jeremy and for our GREAT GOD who in His great mercy brought Jeremy there to this place to share. To God be the glory in the church and in our Savior, Jesus Christ from generation to generation forever and ever. Amen!!

But that wasn't all..... then Jeremy got back up and hugged each of us tightly... moving down the row from Jim Brown all the way to Suzanne.... Amazing God!! What a morning of praise to Him!! If we were Israel we would have put memorial stones down as a reminder of His grace... ah, but we can write it in our book of 1000 gifts of grace, but, of course, this is a day that will live on in our memories. :-)

Love you all.... We are so grateful for each one of you and all that you add to our lives. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!!!!

Funeral Time Change

Jane Anne's moms funeral has been changed to 12:00 noon Friday at Fellowship Chapel.

Praise... Susan Bowden

Talked to Susan Bowden this afternoon, and she said that she had an answer to prayer. She will be working at Pulaski Academy from 11:45AM to 5:30PM, M-F doing something that she called extended care... with first and second graders, I think ????Update.... forgot to mention that she will keep her other job in the morning at Asbury Methodist. :-) She will explain on Friday night, but couldn't wait to tell you that God has heard and answered our prayers!!! To Him be the glory! Great things He has done! Keep praying for her in this job and whatever God has ahead for her.

Jane Anne's mom's funeral and Jeremy

Just a little update on Jane Anne's mom's funeral service. Finally found out that it is scheduled for 11AM on Friday in the chapel at Fellowship. There is a time to see her and the family at Roller Funeral Home on Chenal on Thursday night. I think that begins at 6:30PM, but the person that I spoke to at Fellowship wasn't sure of the time. Just wanted to give you that info if you wanted to come.

Also wanted to say that I talked to Sherry today, and Jeremy is doing great driving so she is very confident that he will pass tomorrow. Also he is doing well with the tests at UALR and has passed every one that he has taken which means that he has scored over 80% on all of them.... and I think she said that he has to take 6+ every time he is there. Don't forget to pray tomorrow at 2PM while he takes the driving test. The test (written and driving) may take 1-1/2 hours.

Grateful for you. See you Friday night at Suzanne's.

update on Lee Gibbons

An update on Lee Gibbons: Lee has been at UAMS and has been receiving dialysis treatments for his kidneys and they have been doing testing. At this point he has decided NOT to have cancer treatment nor removal of his kidney. He just wants to go home. His family is checking on hospice care and unless things change, will honor his request. They are trying to encourage him to continue with dialysis even if he does go home. Pray for God's will to be known to Lee and his family. Pray that God will minister to Lee with kindness and healing.

Community Group Meeting Friday night

Don't forget that we are meeting this Friday night, Nov 20th at Suzanne Patton's home at 7PM. Mike and Suzanne Hufnagel will be there to meet with us. Now that is a God thing, don't you think???

We have a 1000 grace gift reasons to praise Him :-) and lots to pray about. GOD WATCH!!!Felicia did so well on her algebra test. Glory!!! Nicholas is still working at Petco... watching and waiting with eager anticipation to what God will do in this situation. (Put a hedge around him, Lord, and bring him to Yourself). Jeremy is going to UALR three times a week, and also doing lots of PT, etc. God is continuing the miracle. Don't forget that he is taking the driving test on this Thursday, so pray for him. So much more... lots for us all to share on Friday night .

Shepherding Elder

Mike Hufnagel, our shepherding elder, and his wife, Suzanne, will be attending our Nov 20th community group gathering at Suzanne Patton's home. SageWorks is promoting Arkansas Veteran's Home for our community group cause this Christmas. They would like us to adopt a veteran or two and get them gifts. Mike will probably share more with us on how this will work, ie. gifts needed, dollar amount, and where to drop off the gifts. Looking forward to the 20th.

I am reading Nancy Leigh DeMoss's new book, Choosing Gratitude. It is one that Linda recommended and it is challenging me to look at gratitude in a new light...as crucial to a Christian's life.

Jeffery Dean Update

I have just returned from Texas where I spoke nineteen times in various venues. Many of the students that I stood before were in public schools. As you know, I am limited in these venues in sharing the full gospel message. Though I left Texas heavy burdened fore each teen and their eternity, I returned to Nashville confident that God would connect the dots from their hearts to His and that they would catch a glimpse of His overwhelming love and grace. Will you pray for them? Please pray that each teen will:

Visit our website, blog, podcast, and Facebook and read more about what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
Email or Facebook me with questions that open the door for me to present the gospel.
Be sensitive to the Spirit of God as He revels Himself to each teen.
Surrender all to Him!
Even now as I write this letter to you, my heart longs to see that each teen comes to a place of knowing Jesus Christ intimately. I know yours does as well. And, this is why your prayers are critical! Though Jeffrey Dean Ministries is often limited in our message within public schools, we unite prayerfully with you believing that God’s got it with each of these teens. Friends, please pray for Alicia Spillars, wife of one of Donna's nephews in Georgia. At 43 years age, she has breast cancer and has double mastectomy surgery scheduled today. Please pray that the surgery will go well, that her follow up treatments will be minimal and that she have a quick and complete recovery. Thanks to you and to our gracious God.

Praise and Prayer the Country Smiths and Jeremy's driving test Nov 19th

great news from the Country Smiths.... Donna talked to Sherry, and Jeremy will have a driving test at Baptist Rehab on Nov 19th. If he passes the requirements, he will be driving again. That is a huge praise!!! It is also a call to prayer for Jeremy as he takes the test. God is doing amazing (that last amazing was for you, Donna) things in their lives. Are you on a God watch in your life? I know you are. He is moving in the big things and in the little things of our days. Let's give Him praise and thanks.

Shepherding Elder

Mike Hufnagel, our shepherding elder, and his wife Suzanne would like to attend our next meeting. I told him we actually just met Monday night, an unusual time for us, but it was a time most of us could get together this week. I told him I would let him know when we set a date for our next meeting.

Community Group Review

What a great time we had last night with food, good conversation, and a wonderful prayer time. To Him be the glory. I thought it might be helpful to list some of the praises and the prayer requests so that we can lift them to the Lord all week. Praises:
Dan Ludvigson's shoulder is much improved and he was released from PT (hmm... sounds like he was a hostage, doesn't it? But you know what I mean.
Jim and Susan are about to close on another house in their Grace subdivision... that makes 4. Praise His Name.
Kase won First prize in the Mid South State Fair in Memphis for a drawing. It came with a $100 prize. He is also doing well in school and in Wrestling.

Prayers:
Sherry and Jeremy are in Nashville this week to visit Jeff and Amy. Keep them in your prayers.... rest, relaxation, encouragement, fellowship, and freedom from pain for Jeremy.
Mel Ludvigson weaker and pain in foot... unsteady on feet. Pray also that he has enough strength to come home for Christmas. This is Dorothy's prayer and desire.
David Ludvigson... to AR Heart Hospital today for two places on his incision that are still infected.
Nicholas awaiting trial... That he would see his need for the only One who can set him free. That he would be kept from any more trouble and from friends that won't be good for him.

Boxes of Love Food Drive and Prayer

The Bible instructs us to love and care for those in need. This year Fellowship is participating in the Boxes of Love program to provide meals for families throughout Central Arkansas. We would like to give 1,000 families a box containing a holiday meal, a Bible the story of the Gospel and a personal message of hope.
Boxes will be delivered to families in mid-December for Christmas meals. Be sure to pray that the family who will receive your food box is encouraged and feels the love of Christ in a tangible way.

1000 gifts of grace.... and more

Linda and Jim, two of my 1000 gifts of grace. Thanks for allowing us to join in fellowship and prayer with friends and Jesus at your home. We are grateful for our group and for His presence.
Linda, thanks also for sharing the opportunity to become more "intentially grateful" (and the booklet to facilitate it). This will be a great preparation for Thanksgiving as we remember the source of our good and God's grace. It will not be possible to stop at 1000!!!! God is too good.

Community Group and prayer request

Community Group will meet at the City Smiths tomorrow night, November 2, at 6:15PM to have dinner together and then pray. Ya'll come!!!

Susan Bowden has been sick with the "regular" flu.... not the swine flu. She is feeling a little better, but let's keep her in our prayers for a quick and full recovery. Also, don't forget to pray that she finds a job soon. The right job, the right timing, and that it will bring glory and honor to His Name.

(North Little Rock, AR) Global evangelist Luis Palau wrapped up his Central Arkansas CityFest campaign this past weekend with local leaders expressing amazement over the unprecedented cooperation among churches, businesses, and government.

Festival co-chairman Scott T. Ford, former CEO of Alltel and current partner with Westrock Capital Partners, said the legacy of the area-wide effort was the undeniable teamwork among such a diverse group of Arkansans. They were united by the festival’s goal of sharing in word and deed the positive message of Jesus Christ. “The festival exceeded expectations,” said Ford. “We are already working on how to sustain this historic effort for the continued betterment of Central Arkansas.”

The CityFest project began 15 months ago when area pastors committed to bringing their congregations and resources to the effort. Of particular appeal to the churches, businesses, and civic leaders was a new component of Palau festivals called the Season of Service. Creating projects that serve the human needs of the Central Arkansas region – homelessness, hunger, health and wellness, education, literacy, neighborhood revitalization, and families in need – the Season of Service was launched in July with the vision of a culminating festival in October.

CityFest was indeed a celebration – by festival weekend on October 24-25, more than 4,500 volunteers had served in the Season of Service at more than 175 projects. The concept of combining acts of service with an evangelistic festival has drawn the attention of cities across North and South America, Europe and Asia. Dozens of delegates from potential future cities came to Little Rock to observe and learn from CityFest. Pastors said the Season of Service effort revolutionized their congregations and they look forward to sustaining the effort into the future.

The festival itself drew a crowd of 55,000 over two days to the North Shore Riverwalk in North Little Rock. It featured a nonstop program of music, action sports, and family fun. Top names in contemporary Christian music performed, including TobyMac, Kirk Franklin, Newsboys, and country singer Craig Morgan.

The Livin It® action sports demos featured the Outcast BMX team, the Untitled skateboard team, and extreme athletes from the United freestyle motocross team. In cooperation with the Arkansas Homeless Coalition, a “Homeless Outreach Event” project served an estimated 600 people with services ranging from housing and legal assistance to haircuts, free clothing, hot meals, and medical care including flu shots.

“It was so great to see so many people come together in our community for CityFest,” said festival attendee Adam Jordan. “From the churches and businesses that partnered together to make it happen, to politicians from both parties sharing the stage, to seeing kids play in the Family Fun Zone. It was awesome to witness and be a part of.”

Palau’s messages focused on the compelling needs of young people and families – from fatherless kids to financial challenges and sexual temptation. Hundreds of hands were raised across the massive crowd as Palau extended his straightforward invitation to begin a life of faith. Several thousand “friends of the festival” had been trained to counsel new believers as they begin their Christian walk. More than 260 participating churches will welcome them into their congregations.

Future festivals for Luis Palau and his team include Kingston, Jamaica; Yakima, Washington; San Diego, California; Kampala, Uganda; Santiago, Chile; and Phoenix, Arizona.

A Praise

Jim's sister-in-law, Carol, had her laser radiation Wednesday, and it all went very well. The doctor commented on how calm she was when they put the halo on her, and she gave the credit to God and to those who had prayed to Him. Yesterday she helped Bob clean out their shed, and today she is at work. Thanks so much for your prayers... God is so good. Praise His Holy Name!

Nicholas

Angela got Nicholas out of jail yesterday at 5PM, and he cried when he got out. Suzanne had heard that Pulaski County Jail was a rough place. He is in Cabot with his mother right now, and Suzanne prays that she will keep him there. Suzanne is going to Memphis to see her other grandchildren but hopes to see Nicholas on Sunday.

Please pray that this experience will prove to be life changing for Nicholas and that he comes to the only One who truly loves him and can change his life. Better a prisoner of the Lord than enslaved to the world. Can I hear an "Amen!"?

Susan Bowden

Praise the Lord, Susan had a very good interview with the woman at UAMS. Thanks for your prayers. (Forgot to mention that the woman she interviewed with raises money for cancer research. ) The lady she spoke with will be looking for a position for Susan at UAMS but is also going to connect her with someone at the Health Dept concerning any job opportunities there. Please continue to pray for Susan and for the woman at UAMS who will be assisting her. Let's go on our knees to Jehovah Jireh. He is God our Provider.

Suzanne Patton Prayer Request

Suzanne asked me to post the following prayer request:
Nicholas has been arrested on some serious charges and is in jail in Little Rock. While she hurts about this situation, she is not inclined to bail him out. She asks that we pray for his personal safety while he remains in jail and that he learn that it is essential to face the consequences of his actions. Please pray also that the Holy Spirit speak to Nicholas and communicate to him in a real way his need for Jesus in his life.
Please hold Suzanne up in prayer that she have the peace of knowing her decision is consistent with God's will and is what is in Nicholas' best interest, although it is painful.
Suzanne DOES still want us to come to community group tomorrow at her house.
God our mighty warrior be with us.

Prayer Request

Jim's sister-in-law who has the acoustic neuroma will have a baseline MRI today and then will have laser radiation tomorrow morning. This involves putting her head in a halo type brace and securing it so that she won't move and directing laser radiation at the neuroma. She is nervous about them putting her in this contraption and feeling trapped (my words). Please pray for the procedure to go quickly without complications AND for her to have amazing peace throughout the whole time.... His peace that the world can't give.... His peace that is supernatural and comes by the Holy Spirit.

Two Prayer Requests

Friends,
Please pray for a long-time friend Lee Gibbons. He has been diagnosed with kidney cancer. He is to have surgery today at Conway Regional. I will be checking on him today and will let you know if I learn more about him.
Also please pray for our son-in-law's father Jim Tolbert. He has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is to discuss treatment options with the doctor at Dallas this morning. I will update as we know more.
Thanks and praise to God.

Community Group Meeting and Prayer Requests

Remember Community Group meets this Friday at Suzanne's home. Please communicate with her if you are unable to come.

Prayer and praise:

Praise Him for all He is and all He has done for us. The cross is enough to show His amazing Love, and yet He continues to lavish us with more grace and love. He is worthy of all of our praise.

Tashonda (released from Wrightsville prison and going to Fellowship) has two part time jobs that will start soon... continue to pray for her.

Reminder for Cityfest.... a great harvest of souls and many to disciple them.

Susan Brown is still not completely well. Please continue to pray.

I am leaving Wednesday for Chicago to do a big workshop. Please hold the students and me up in prayer Thursday, Friday, Saturday and of course for the travel there and back. That they would learn and that God would be glorified.

Kristin confronted her sister-in-law (in love) about her lifestyle and her affair and was met with denial and anger... please pray.

AND of course, all of the other prayer requests... the nation, Susan Bowden, Jeremy, Jerry, Sherry, Felicia, Nick, Nicolas, Mark, Mike,.... to Him be the glory!!!

Praise About Jeremy

I spoke with Sherry yesterday, and she said that Jeremy is doing well and will only have one more day at Timber Ridge (or Timber Ranch... as Sherry called it yesterday)... and that will be next Wednesday if I heard correctly. He will get his PT by going to a fitness club in Conway after next Wednesday.

She said that they went to New Life Church on Sunday, and one evening Jeremy went by himself to a men's meeting at the church. It is called MAFIA... not sure what that stands for. AND he was planning to go to the Hillsong concert there last night. Sherry drives him there, but he goes in by himself, and last night her neice was there to bring him home. They also went to a gathering in Searcy for True Love Waits that they have gone to 2 times, I think. They were invited by a couple that they know. So Sherry is burning up the roads (pray for her) but it is so exciting and such an answer to prayer. Praise His Holy Name!!!

Also continue to pray for Jeremy's heel pain and plantar fasciata (did I murder that spelling??). It regularly wakes him up at about 2AM so they have tea and conversation which is good.... but is also hard in that it messes up the rest of the day and, of course, is soooo uncomfortable. Give him rest... uninterupted peaceful rest, Lord.

Ah... almost forgot... Sherry said that at one point in his stay at TR Jeremy was able to share the gospel with his roommate... who actually started the conversation as I understand. Glory!!!! You all.... God is doing miracles all around us .... and Jeremy's life is a huge example of that. Let's just praise His name together and continue to pray!!!

Some thoughts and a prayer request

Just letting you know I am reading and taking down the prayer requests.

Erinie - The colors are great for this blog.

My shoulder is doing a lot better. Today's therapy session felt like I went through Hell and back but the shoulder seems to be working better. The therapist was having way too much fun!!!!!!!! It is my prayer that things could be back to normal by the end of the month.
Please, continue to prayer for my brother David. He is just getting too depressed and his mobility has been greatly reduced this past two weeks. MOST IMPORTANTLY, prayer for his salvation.
Also, prayer that I would not look to my own strenth when taking care of the family. For now with dad in the home it has reduced the load a lot.
I know that each one of you are always there and I thank you , but I meant that I would truly lean on the Lord and experience the Joy of the Lord as my strength in all of this and see His blessing in all he has me doing and that I would show it more on my face. :>)

Cityfest

Great job today at Cityfest!!!! Thanks for all you did to make this day a success and a blessing to so many people. Dr. Barry Sorrels mentioned to Jim that our group were lifesavers. He was having trouble getting anyone to help and then he got our email with the offer to work on this project. He said, "What a blessing! Perfect timing!" God is so good!!! Jim had been having trouble getting us on at any other work site, but all along God had the perfect plan and a perfect place for us to serve!!!

Prayer request TODAY!! Jeffrey Dean Ministries

We have an extremely busy two months ahead of us. One trip in particular that I want you to be praying for begins this upcoming Wednesday, September 23 in Maryville, IL at a See You After The Pole Rally. You may recall the tragedy that happened earlier this year at Maryville Baptist Church when Pastor Fred Winters was shot and killed in the sanctuary. I preached at his church just a few weeks before this tragedy. I am returning to Maryville Baptist this Wednesday night to speak at a live simulcast broadcast from this sanctuary to other churches and schools throughout Illinois and Missouri. Pray that many teens surrender all to Jesus this night. Pray for those teens still struggling with this tragedy to find God’s peace this night.


After leaving Illinois, I will be traveling to three additional states. I have included a detailed itinerary for this trip. Please pray for us each day that God will use every word of every message to draw people to Him.

Prayer Request - Susan Bowden

Please continue to pray for Susan to get a full time job. While she is waiting to find a full time job, she would like to find an additional part-time job. She works at the daycare till 11:00 or 12:00. Anytime after 1:00 she could go to another job.

Prayer Request - Jeremy

Jeremy has a doctors appointment Monday for his right foot. He is in pain and has some swelling. It is also keeping him awake at night. Please remember to pray for him on Monday morning.

after 7 months Robyn and Randy finally have received a serious offer on their home. It is not quite enough,so they are about to counter offer. The prospective buyers have been praying about this and we know ask that you now too pray for them.

Prayer Requests

Dan is having an MRI on Friday to see if he has a rotator cuff injury. If he does it will probably require surgery, and that will mean he will not be able to drive for a considerable amount of time, which will be a real difficulty for the whole family. Please pray for him!!

Also, Jim's sister in law has a acoustic neuroma which is somewhere in her ear and therefore very near her brain. These tumors are slow growing and are rarely cancerous, but she will probably have to have lazer radiation to remove it or it will eventually spread to her brain. It is very small right now, for which we are very thankful. She sees another doctor on Tuesday to schedule the lazer treatment.

Meet you at the throne. We soooo appreciate you all and your heart to pray.

Now that we have the blog to help us stay connected (thank you, Ernie), we thought it would be helpful to have the following information to help us communicate faster and in other ways, too. I have this info for most of you but would appreciate you sending it to me again in case anything has changed. Also, I do not have all your birthdays!!!! I'm writing to you because you qualify as a sage, "one who has wisdom and life experience to share." As we launch a new ministry in the coming months called SageWorks, targeting those who are 55+ but involving others who want to join some of our ministries, I want to share with you some of my ideas for this congregation and ask for your input.

My first pass at a vision statement for this community is -

The SageWorks Congregation is a community of people seeking to live life skillfully from God's perspective, caring for each other, and encouraging one another to invest what He is teaching them in the next generation.

First, SageWorks is a community seeking to live life skillfully from God's perspective. The word wisdom in the Old Testament means just that. God calls us to a different vision for this season of life than the one painted by our culture. He wants us to be investing in things that are eternal, using the Abrahams, Sarahs, Calebs, Annas, and Daniels of the Scriptures as our role models. We need people around us encouraging and exhorting us, holding us accountable to live life skillfully. As a congregation, we have elders and coaches (Mike Hufnagel, Jerry Kennedy, Mickey Miller, Bill Stowers, and John Wallace) who, with their wonderful wives, are excited about mentoring our community groups as we seek to live our lives skillfully.

Second, SageWorks is a community committed to caring for each other. In keeping with our philosophy of ministry, we want to be very proactive in equipping you to navigate this season of life. We will use the wisdom, gifting, and life experiences that our congregation possesses, along with the insights of trained professionals, to minister to those who are facing physical and medical challenges and walk with those transitioning to a new season in their life. We will, to quote Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:4, "Comfort those who are in any affliction with this comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."

Finally, SageWorks is a community encouraging each other to invest what He is teaching us in the next generation. Every one of us has passions and skills that we can share with others in our church and community. Many of the youngsters in our church are hungry to spend time with people who have the spiritual perspective and life experience that we have. Recently I mentioned that if anyone would like a mentor, I would do my best to connect them with one. I had nearly 100 responses from people who desire that type of relationship.

I talked to Donna Skrivanos this morning and told her our Community Group met last Friday night, and we want to be part of what God is going to be doing in and with SageWorks. I related, as a group, we are excited. Also, how much we appreciated Bill Parkinson taking the time to explain the vision God had given about SageWorks, and how it would minister.
I told her Jim Brown and Jim Smith would be co-leaders, and she said that was fine. Several Community Groups were doing it that way.
She said Mike Hufnagel (wife is Suzanne) would be our shepherding elder. Mike is a very hands on leader and will be meeting with us soon.
If I get any more news, I'll post it here. Praise the Lord!!

Why pray?

Why pray? The following thought from Oswald Chamber makes a wonderful case for prayer—“The idea of prayer is not to get answers from God; prayer is perfect and complete oneness with God. If we pray because we want answers, we will get huffed with God. The answers come every time, but not always in the way we expect, and our spiritual huff shows a refusal to identify ourselves with our Lord in prayer. We are not here to prove God answers prayer; we are here to be living monuments of God’s grace.”

Typo

Ernie caught a typo in the Cityfest e-mail I received from Donna Skrivanos and sent to everyone. In the e-mail the work dates are typed as Sept 23 and Oct 3. Oct 3 is right but the other date should be Sept 26, so mark your calendars and make your plans accordingly. Video announcement before church and church bulletin insert both had Sept 26 as THE DATE. So it must be Sept 26 and Oct 3. Sept 23 is Wednesday which would have been a strange Cityfest work day anyway. Sept 26 and Oct 3 are both Saturdays and make more sense. Hope to see you there.

Crisis Pregnancy Center in North Little Rock: (Will need 30 – 40 people)
There is both outside and inside work. Some of the outside work is: painting wrought iron railing, building a cover over AC units, building an enclosure for trash containers, landscaping, mulching, removing/replacing railroad ties, cutting tree branches, sanding/painting outside of doors, etc, etc.
Some of the inside work is removing a water fountain and building a storage closet with a door, painting AC return air vents, washing windows, washing mini blinds, making information packets for clients, etc , etc.
1010 Charles Bussey DR. – Ms. Dupree’s house: (Will need 50+ people)
All outside work – power wash/scrape and paint the exterior of the house. The paint has badly peeled so a lot of pre-work will be needed prior to painting.
There are some high areas on the house that will require ladders or scaffolding. A few boards will also need to be replaced.
1721 Pinewood – Mr./Mrs. McCoy: (Will need 6 or 8 people)
Mrs. McCoy has purchased 4 or 5 doors (inside and outside) and ask if we could put them up for her. This project will need people who have some experience in carpentry and/or door installing.
I need (must have) 3 to 6 people to step forward to lead these various projects. We only have about 3 weeks before the 26th so we must get starting now with the planning and preparation. I also need a few (3 or 4) to help with planning for how/what we will serve lunch for our teams.
Also, if you have people in your groups who are retired or have time to work during the week(s) prior to the26th please let me know.

Kristin and Kyleigh update

They made it there safely even though the Vanderbilt medical campus was totally confusing to Kristin. Kyleigh did well throughout the checkup and was cooperative. They did some tests and will do a voiding cystogram in Nashville Sept 30th to see if she is having reflux of urine back to her kidneys causing scarring. Not an easy test for any child. However Kristin had it at this age and did it well, but Kyleigh is a little more.... no a lot more strong willed since she has some special needs.... soooo please pray.

Kristin has to take Kyleigh, her youngest, to Nashville today for tests at Vanderbilt. They are checking her for kidney syndrome... not sure what all that entails.... BUT please pray
#1 for them as they travel, Kristin is not excited about trying to find the place in Nashville.
#2 that Kyleigh is cooperative through the tests
#3 that they find everything healthy and normal.

Just talked to Susan Brown. She and Jim are signing up for the Sunday night Explore. That should be all of us unless Dan wants to come.
She also ask us to pray for Mike. His life seems to be in disarray again. Drug issues, behind on child support, volatile relationship and major issues with his wife, and problems at work. Sounds like he needs an experience like Paul had on the road to Damascus. A face to face. The enemy has had control long enough. Pray!!

I talked to Donna Skrivanos, Bill Parkinson's secretary, this morning. She asked about our community group, and if we were ready to be part of Sageworks yet. I told her we were praying about three options that we had discussed at our last meeting, and we would probably have a better idea about our direction after our 09/04/09 meeting. Also, told her our group had a lot of sage in the marital, children, and financial areas, if we decide to be sages.
She strongly encouraged our group members to do Explore. She said this is one thing Big Sage, Bill P, really wants all his troops to know and do. I told her Linda, myself, Suzanne, and Susan Bowden had already signed up for Sunday nights(6:00 to 7:30), and that I was confident others would do likewise.
She asked about a leader. I told her I would take the job, but at our next meeting, if someone else in our group felt like they wanted the job, I would gladly defer.
She said Sageworks was definitely a work in progress. Initially, they want to get all the community groups organized and under a shepherd, with the shepherd getting to know his three or four groups really well, ie. strengths, weaknesses, problems, opportunities, mentoring potential, etc. Then launch after the first of the new year into ministries or mentoring.
This was all gleaned in a 15 minute conversation, and I'm sure subject to change, since Sageworks is a work in progress.

Prayer for Friend of Robyn

group... please pray for a young woman and her family, a friend ( i won't name her, but some of you may know her.) of our daughter Robyn from high school (maybe before). She has 5 kids and has been seperated form her husband. Donna and I ran into her dad last night and he said "they are talking" and went to church together as a family Sunday. Prease pray for her marraige to be restored and for her to know the loving forgiveness of Jesus. She is a Christian, just fallen into sin as we all do. The last time Robyn tried to call and just be her friend, she would not even call back....Pray for her heart to be softened and for kind conviction to come to her. Her parents (Christians) have had a difficult time dealing with this and need to be lifted up in love too. Thanks.

OK.... I am going to try to post a blog.... First, Friday night was such a blessing to me and such an encouragement. There is nothing like praying together as a group, lifting our voices to God in praise and in supplication. Woke up the next morning to read Ezekiel 22 and saw again Ezek 22:30.... God looking for a man to stand in the gap for the land and finding none... wondered if that was the GAP in our blog title. I saw us as that (collective) man standing in the gap for the land and those in it and marveled at God's timing in showing me that after our time together and Ernies blog. Praise His Name!!!

Now a request. Please pray for our granddaughter, Kendyl, who started 8th grade and had never been to school before in her life. She has had a rough start... feels overwhelmed and lonely and out of place. Her nervousness is causing her to have trouble with even doing the work or taking the tests. I know God has a plan for her in this, and He will not leave her or forsake her. Please do pray for her this week.. her third week in school.
